Frank Lampard’s Chelsea team are actually WORSE this season than they were last term, despite spending over £200million in the transfer market! This is according to Lampard’s former West Ham teammate, Trevor Sinclair, who believes the Blues are lacking the ‘spirit’ they showed last season since their huge recruitment drive.

Having been burdened with a transfer ban last season, Chelsea had the cash to splash this summer and Roman Abramovich signed off on a massive spend.Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell, Kai Havertz and Edouard Mendy all arrived at Stamford Bridge for big money, while Malang Sarr and Thiago Silva were also signed on free transfers. But Lampard is still figuring out his strongest team with all the new recruits, and it’s been a mixed start to the season for Chelsea. They’ve won two, drawn two and lost one of their opening five Premier League matches, been knocked out the Carabao Cup, but began their Champions League campaign with a draw. And the Blues face another tough test this weekend when they visit Manchester United – with full commentary of the Saturday 5:30pm kick-off LIVE on talkSPORT!And given Chelsea’s shaky start to the season, Sinclair continues to have doubts over the Blues. In fact, he believes they are actually performing at a lesser level than they did throughout the 2019/20 campaign!“I’m still up in the air with my opinions about Chelsea,” said Sinclair on Friday’s talkSPORT Breakfast. “I’m not sure which way it is going to go.

“Frank came in at Chelsea and did really well last season, and I thought that the young players that were introduced to the squad integrated really well and put in good performances.“But this year, since he had that money to spend in the summer… I’m just not sure which way it is going to go.“You’ve got some quality players in there – Havertz, Werner, Ziyech and so on – but for me they look liked a better outfit last year. There was more spirit about the team.“It’s going to take a while, I think, to blend the players together.”Saturday is GameDay on talkSPORT as we bring you three LIVE commentaries, including Manchester United vs Chelsea at 5:30pm!
